While maybe not as well known historically as other major cities, Litchfield Park has a fascinating past. The city is named for a past executive of the Goodyear Tire and Rubber Company Paul Litchfield. In the early 20th century Litchfield may not have known that his actions would shape the destiny of the affluent town we know today as Litchfield Park. At the turn of the 20th Century Goodyear needed cotton to strengthen the tires they were producing. At the time, this was an accepted practice. The problem is the supply of cotton has diminished. As a result Litchfield looked to grow cotton in an underdeveloped parcel of land in Arizona. That became the basis for the town of Litchfield Park and the rest is history!
